Flying Diamond Ranch Headquarters
San Miguel County, New Mexico
Taking possession of the Flying Diamond Ranch property in San Miguel County has been a comprehensive endeavor, entailing the reclamation of watersheds, implementation of progressive grazing methods, and forest protection. We were retained to design and monitor construction of the new Ranch Headquarters facility consisting of: a Ranch Foreman’s House, Guest House, Mechanical Shop, Horse Barn, and Equipment Shed. We wanted to create an assembly of buildings one might’ve discovered here a hundred years ago, using contemporary green-building systems. The Ranch House is heated with a solar panel array hidden among the trees; and the project is ready for transition to full ‘off-grid’ status at a future date. The owners have temporarily moved into the Foreman’s House, and there’s fantastic art everywhere!
The ranch was the subject of a feature article, ‘Ranch Redux’, in Cowboys and Indians Magazine, October 2011.
