San Acacio Residence

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Originally an out-building on a larger parcel, this project evolved through addition and embellishment into the established fabric of the Historic District of Santa Fe.  We created an entry court to begin the traditional sequence of discovery typical of the neighborhood.  New construction with adobe gave us an entry gallery connecting the new bedroom wing.  We cooled the gallery wall with north-facing french windows on a stone bench, radiant heating at the sill; our view aspect north for color.  Demolition of small bedrooms in the existing casita, with the removal of wood-floor and plaster ceiling, created space adequate for a nicely scaled sitting area.  We removed a substantial amount of existing walls to make room for new sets of french doors onto patios.
